Siemens Teal Park: Case Study

The Clients: Siemens Teal Park, Lincoln

Siemens Global Service Operations Centre (GSOC) at Teal Park in Lincoln is a 7,000sqm high-tech facility, providing storage for small gas turbine parts and engines.

The new-build storage facility – which has been rated by BREEAM as ‘Very Good – features a large quantity of racking between which lighting fixtures were required. It was clear that the choice and setting of such lighting would have to be optimised to deliver the correct lux levels.

Abtec BT’s remit was to provide the necessary controls for both the main and emergency lighting provisions, and to deliver system integration to the central battery system in the warehouse. Abtec was also asked to provide a solution for the office block. As well as providing controls for the main and emergency lighting, the offices also required daylight, presence and manual dimming control with all three systems needing to work in unison.

Abtec BT’s HYDRA integrated building energy management system provided the foundation for the solution, ensuring comfortable lighting levels for staff and the testing of emergency lighting in line with the highest safety standards. HYRDA advocates open systems and, in this instance, worked with three different networks: IP, KNX and Dali.

The result was energy savings of up to 60% when compared with a traditional installation, delivering an almost immediate return on its investment. The system has also future proofed the building against any new legislation introduced.
